A record of homes, not of people
What we hold, what we never take, and what happens to anything you give us, in plain words.
Last updated October 18, 2026
The short version
- TradeWrench is a record of the equipment in homes, not of the people who live in them.
- We never take names, phone numbers or email addresses from permits or any other record.
- The only personal detail we hold is the email address you give us if you choose to sign in.
- Plate photos are read and then thrown away. We never keep the photo.
- We never use public records to contact the people who live at an address.
- No ads, no analytics trackers, and nothing about you is sold.
No data about residents from records, ever
We build each home’s record from public records about the home and its equipment: the county’s tax lot file (address, year built, size), building permits for heating, cooling, plumbing and electrical work (the date, the work described, the licensed business that did it), and public lists of recalls and efficient models. Every fact on a record shows where it came from.
We do not take, keep or use the names, phone numbers or email addresses of the people who live in a home, from permits or any other record, and our customers can’t either. When a file we read carries one, it is dropped as the file is read, before anything is stored. If one ever slips through, we purge it.
A few plain facts are worked out from the tax lot file and the rest is dropped: whether the owner is a company, a government or a person, and whether the tax bill goes to the home itself. We keep a company’s name only when a company owns the property or did the work as a licensed business, never a private person’s name.
If you sign in
Looking up a home never needs an account. If you choose to sign in, you give us an email address. It is the one personal detail we hold, and it is kept only in our sign-in system, never alongside any home’s record. We use it only to:
- send you sign-in codes;
- send the reminders you turned on, about homes you follow;
- send one notice you asked for when an address you follow comes into coverage.
Every reminder has a way to stop it. Your email is never added to a mailing list, never joined to a home in any report, export or feed, and never sold or shared for anyone else’s use.
Deleting it. Delete your account from your account page, or write to hello@tradewrench.comand we’ll do it for you. Your email address and your private notes go with it. What you added to a home’s record stays on that home (see below), with nothing that points back to you.
Plate photos
When you photograph the label on a furnace, water heater or appliance, the photo is read to pull out the brand, model, serial number and dates, and then it is thrown away. We never keep the photo. You see what was read and check it before anything is saved, and only those label details are saved.
Some photos are read by an AI service that reads labels for us (Anthropic). We send it the photo and nothing about you, and it is told to skip any name or phone number written on a sticker.
What a household adds
What you tell us about a home’s equipment (a plate reading, where a unit sits, that a unit was replaced or is gone, a service date, the shop that did the work) is saved to that home’s record as the household’s word, marked that way until a plate or a shop confirms it. It belongs to the home’s record: anyone who looks up the address sees it, and it stays when the home changes hands. We don’t show who added it.
Receipts and what you paid, once you can add them, stay private to you. They are never shown to anyone else and never appear on the home’s record.
Corrections never erase
Nothing on a record is deleted. A correction is added as a new entry that says what changed, and the earlier entry stays in the history, marked as replaced, so the record stays honest for the next owner. The one exception is personal information: if you see anything about a person on a record, write to hello@tradewrench.com and we remove it.
We never use public records to contact people
We never use public records to contact, mail, call or market to the people who live at an address, and we don’t let anyone use TradeWrench to do it.
Washington’s public records law doesn’t allow lists of people to be released for commercial use. Five cities (Bothell, University Place, Pacific, Marysville and Moses Lake) asked us to declare under RCW 42.56.070(8) that we won’t use their records to contact or affect those people for profit, and that we’ll keep others from doing so. We signed, and we hold every customer to the same rule, in every state.
Shops never see each other’s customers
A heating, plumbing or electrical shop can see the equipment and dates on a home, never which other shop did the work. A shop’s own job records and customers are visible only to that shop.
Who helps us run it
Our database and sign-in system run on Supabase, the website on Vercel, and plate photos may be read by Anthropic, all in the United States. Sign-in links and reminders are sent through an email delivery service. Each handles data only to run TradeWrench for us.
Your choices
- Look up any home without an account.
- Turn reminders off at any time, from the reminder itself or your account page.
- Delete your account at any time.
- Ask what we hold about you. If you have signed in, it is your email address, the homes and addresses you follow, your reminder settings and any private notes; otherwise, nothing.
- Fix a record with “Fix or add to this record” on its page.
Children
TradeWrench is not meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly take an email address from one.
Changes to this page
When this page changes, the date at the top changes too. If a change affects how we use your email address, we’ll tell you by email before it takes effect.
